Hydrolyzed Polymaleic Anhydride (HPMA)

HPMA has a relative molecular weight of 400‑800. It is non‑toxic, readily soluble in water, and features excellent chemical and thermal stability with decomposition temperature above 330 °C. HPMA is suitable for alkaline environments. Thanks to its outstanding scale‑inhibiting and high‑temperature‑resistant performance, it is widely used in flash evaporation units for seawater desalination, medium‑low pressure boilers and industrial circulating cooling water. In addition, HPMA provides certain corrosion‑inhibiting effect, which performs better when compounded with zinc salts. It can also be used as concrete admixture and saline‑alkali soil amendment.

    2. Technical Specifications

    ItemGB/T 10535‑2014
    AppearanceLight‑yellow to dark‑brown transparent liquid
    Solid Content %≥50.0
    Bromine Value, mg/g≤50.0
    Density (20℃), g/cm³1.22‑1.25
    pH (1% aqueous solution)2.0‑3.0

    3. Usage Method

    1. When HPMA is used alone, the typical dosage is 1‑15 mg/L. It is often compounded with organic phosphonates for circulating cooling water treatment and internal treatment of low‑pressure boilers. HPMA has good anti‑scaling and old‑scale stripping performance, with scale inhibition rate up to 98 %.
    2. When EDTMPS is blended with HPMA at 1:3 ratio, the mixture can be used for internal treatment of low‑pressure boilers. When compounded with zinc salts, it effectively prevents carbon‑steel corrosion.

    4. Packaging and Storage

HPMA is packed in plastic drums of 25 KG or 250 KG. Packaging can be adjusted per customer requirements. Shelf life: 12 months.

    5. Safety & Protection

HPMA is acidic. Take labor‑protection measures during operation. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Rinse with plenty of clean water upon contact.
